Home - Waterproofing: Waterproofing of crystalline material for the walls basement

Sealing material can protect your basement and against water and freeze it enters the cavity and makes it solid and porous concrete impermeable. This material is very useful in basements where water seepage creates problems. It can be installed very easily and there is no need of a professional.

The cleaning of the surface of the wall

First of all, you need to clean the concrete from any obstacle, because otherwise the crystalline waterproofing material will not remain fixed. It’s also better to have a hammer and a chisel cold in the case where there are no more large pieces of concrete which must be removed. Some areas may have more layers of paint on them, for which it is possible to wash the power or blasting them.

Repair of concrete surfaces

The waterproofing material can’t be applied before the pressure has not been repaired before. A shop vac can be used if there are any loose dirt and concrete that must be extracted from breakage or crumbling areas. Prepare some patches of cement and spread it on every crack or hole with a trowel. After that, let it dry completely before applying any material on it.

Wet surfaces

The concrete must be wet before applying the waterproofing material. The amount of water used must be reasonable, otherwise you soak the area and the results are not what you expected.

Waterproofing material mixing

A bucket will be needed in order to mix the cement with the necessary quantity of water, until it becomes a thick paste. At some point the material begins to heat up. When this happens you do not get alarmed because this kind of chain reaction is perfectly normal.

Application of the material

After it became a thick paste, apply a layer over the concrete wall. With a masonry brush, you can distribute the material in the wall until it is sufficient to consider.

Keep the wet wall

After finishing the piece with the material, you need to keep the whole damp wall for another 48 hours at least. This is necessary because if you solve too quickly, the material will not have enough time to enter fully into the porous concrete.

Sprinkle the material

Another possibility would be to sprinkle the material on the new concrete pours. If the foundation is new, then the sprinkler will be made on the wet surface. While the dry concrete, the material is about to solidify within the wall, creating a sort of seal waterproof.
